Fair Use & Claim Eligibility Policy

The Tenant Protection Scheme is committed to offering affordable, high-quality support to tenants facing housing issues. To maintain fairness and long-term sustainability for all members, the following eligibility policy applies to new subscribers.
Claim Activation Period
Support for standard tenancy matters such as rent arrears, disrepair, notice challenges, or deposit issues becomes available after a two-month qualifying period from the date of registration. This helps prevent short-term misuse and ensures our resources remain focused on ongoing tenant support.
Immediate Support for Emergencies
- We may offer same-day response in urgent situations, including:
- Illegal eviction or being locked out
- Threats or harassment from a landlord
- Loss of essential services (e.g. gas, electricity, water) caused by landlord action
- These are assessed on a case-by-case basis to determine if early intervention is appropriate. Eligibility is based on urgency, documentation, and evidence provided.
Why This Policy Exists
TPS is designed to provide long-term housing support, not one-off use. The two-month buffer protects the service from abuse and allows us to prioritise members with genuine, sustained housing issues.
